October. There is no snow yet. Near midnight, the moon is full and brilliant in a windless, crystal sky. The temperature is less than ten degrees Farenheit.
The roads are frozen smooth and hard, straight across the flat country. The cold touches my skin but does not penetrate. I roll for miles on my high wheeler in the blue-gray twilight.
